Daily Telegraph reports - Sexual assault charges withdrawn against Alexandru Todicescu… All nine of the charges were dropped and withdrawn at Hornsby Local Court.

A respected musician from Sydney’s upper north shore has had several historical sex charges withdrawn.

Alexandru Todicesu, 83, was charged in September last year with nine offences relating to claims made by a person over alleged events in the 1980s.

On April 13, at Downing Centre Court, a representative for the NSW Director of Public Prosecutions indicated that after careful consideration, the Director had declined to certify any of the allegations in the matter and levelled against Mr Todicescu.

All nine charges against Mr Todicescu were subsequently withdrawn and dismissed by the Court from orders made by Magistrate Jennifer Atkinson.

Mr Todicescu’s lawyer, Gerard Mitchell said the 83-year-old had co-operated with police at each stage of the investigation.

“He waived his right to silence from the outset and gave truthful and honest answers to police protesting his innocence in relation to all allegations from his first interaction with them,” Mr Mitchell said.

Mr Mitchell said his client had been through an ordeal after the serious charges were laid.

“For a man of his age, standing and good character, the process was both highly stressful and embarrassing for him and his family,” Mr Mitchell said.

“He is extremely relieved that justice has prevailed and hopes to now be able to return to his normal life.”

Mr Mitchell went on to say, “Mr Todicescu placed his faith in the abilities of the NSW Police to fairly investigate the allegations, and for the authorities to make the appropriate decision at the relevant time.”

Mr Mitchell said Mr Todicescu is a “committed family man” with no criminal history, having immigrated to Sydney in 1975.

Mr Todicescu played viola in the Sydney String Quartet for over 20 years.

His quartet toured over 30 countries and was regarded as one of the top string quartets globally.

“Mr Todicescu would like to express his deepest appreciation and thanks to friends and family who provided him with unequivocal and unwavering support for the duration of the charge and investigation process,” Mr Mitchell said on behalf of the musician.

Mr Mitchell said Mr Todicescu took up a position as senior lecturer at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music where he taught for 30 years before teaching at Barker College from 2004-2022.

“During that time, Mr Todicescu taught hundreds of students, both violin and viola, and received the Australian Music Examinations Board annual award for top teacher in NSW in the instrumental category 24 times,” he said.

Mr Mitchell said many of Mr Todicescu‘s students have since gone on to forge successful musical careers.
